A New Chapter: Adam Glynn appointed as Musical Director.

Granite City Brass is delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Glynn BA(Hons) LRSM as the band’s new Musical Director.

Adam comes to the band with a distinguished background across the brass band and military music worlds, bringing extensive experience as a conductor, performer, composer, and arranger. Having started his musical journey in the Salvation Army, he went on to complete 24 years as a professional musician in the British Army, where he regularly deputised for the Director of Music and Bandmaster, performed internationally as a featured soloist, and served as Trumpet Major. He studied conducting under Professor Rob Wiffin OBE at the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall.  His previous conducting appointments include Plymouth City Brass and St Austell Town Band, alongside appearances with Championship Section bands. Having recently relocated to Aberdeenshire with his wife, taking up the baton with Granite City Brass was a natural fit.

Speaking about joining the band, Adam said:

“I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Musical Director with Granite City Brass. The band has a proud history, a warm community spirit, and great potential. It’s been a real pleasure standing in front of such a hard-working group of players already, and I’m looking forward to building on those strong foundations, exploring new repertoire, and taking the band forward on both the concert and contest stages.”

As we look to the future, Granite City Brass would also like to thank Alan Haggart, who stepped up to the MD role following the departure of Bruce Wallace in 2025 after his 11-year tenure. Alan’s leadership over the past few months provided important continuity for the band during the transition, all while continuing his role on soprano cornet.

“We are really grateful to Alan for stepping up to MD to run rehearsals after Bruce moved on. His support kept things moving seamlessly and gave us the time we needed to find the right long-term fit. We are delighted to have Adam on board now. Rehearsals are going brilliantly, and we are excited for what lies ahead.”
