John started playing in Stoneywood Silver Band at the age of 8. His first contest with the band was in 1956. He is self taught and is still waiting for his 1st lesson.
John comes from a strong brass banding background where at least 5 relatives have been members of the band.
John is one of the most important members of our band as he has been librarian for the past 30 years.
Rosalind started playing brass when she was eight years old. She was taught by and subsequently played with the Leicester Forester’s Band. She progressed with the band from 3rd section to Championship section before leaving to study at university.
Her first year’s student grant was spent on buying her own horn having had to return the band instrument on which she had played!
Over the years Ros has played intermittently whilst working as an engineer and being a mother. Although she has at some time played every instrument in the band apart from bass, and in the last ten years had moved to flugelhorn to facilitate playing with Church music groups, Ros first love (musically!) is her horn.
Now working in Aberdeen as a sub-sea engineer, Ros joined Granite City Brass in 2004 and is thoroughly enjoying playing and contesting again.
